Relevant experience
I have a wide range of experience working within the equine industry.
With my BHS AI I have extensive experience teaching a wide variety of clients from complete beginners to more experienced riders of all ages, both individually and in groups.
I am proficient at lunging, long reining, groundwork and backing horses and this is something that I have been engaged in regularly. I enjoy all aspects of daily yard work and field care and also take pride in maintaining the highest standards of horse care.
I have competed with my own horse to British Eventing Novice level and also enjoy competing in dressage, hunter trials and show jumping. I enjoy hacking and schooling horses, and am currently training a super fun 15HH sporty cob and a sensitive 17HH Thoroughbred.
As the Equine Senior at an animal rescue charity I am in charge of 16 equines and organise the staff, volunteers and daily yard routines for all of the veterinary, physiotherapy, and farrier visits as well as ordering feed, hay and bedding supplies.
I update all of the horse's individual records on a regular basis and communicate with the office and marketing staff.
I enjoy giving regular talks about the horses in my care and this has included a radio interview.
I have two members of staff working for me who I have trained to BHS standards and I also train general welfare workers and volunteers.
Current role - description
I am the Equine Senior at Margaret Green Animal Rescue, where I have 16 beautiful equines in my care. Many of the horses that arrive at the centre have either behavioural or medical issues and require very sensitive handling and endless patience.
Any horses that are suitable to be ridden are brought on with groundwork, lunging, long reining and are backed when ready.
Managing the Margaret Green equine rehoming centre I also show prospective owners any horses who I feel are suitable for rehoming and also do rehoming suitability checks and provide advice where necessary.
For the visitor centre I also give talks to the general public about the horses in my care and was interviewed on radio during a live show that was broadcast from the centre.
I organise all aspects of the running of the yard as well as regularly updating all of the horses records and booking appointments with the veterinary, farrier and physiotherapist. I keep the office and marketing department well informed of any potential rehoming updates and put in requests for specific charitable appeals.
I manage two members of staff, volunteers and general welfare workers who I have trained to BHS standards and enjoy keeping a immaculate yard with the highest standard of horse care.
The yard has also become a member of the National E quine Welfare Council since I took over. I also enjoy meeting up with other equine welfare organizations, and being able to help them whenever I can.
