Relevant experience
Before being promoted to Lance Corporal, my daily tasks included grooming the horses, checking for injuries, cleaning state kit and turning the horses out to a high standard. When the horses come back from winter grass each year, our duties included clipping, trimming, pulling manes and tails, and ensuring the horses were fit and ready for parade again.
I have taken part in many ceremonial events including the Royal Wedding and the Trooping of the Colour, both in 2018. When deployed to ‘Summer Camp’ each year I spent 4 weeks having regular lessons over both cross country and show jumps. We would take part in competitions and also enjoy hacking and riding on the beach. In 2018 I was chosen for the Regimental Riding Instructors course.
Current role - description
I am currently working as a Lance Corporal within the Mounted Regiment. I am employed within the troops, working with the men and horses. My daily tasks are to take groups of troopers out to exercise the horses, to inspect the grooming of the horses, to inspect the cleanliness of the yard and make sure everything is running smoothly. I regularly liaise with vets and nutritionists to ensure the horses are receiving the best possible care. At any one time, I could be in charge of up to 30 troopers.
