I am a highly organised individual with years of hands-on experience within the Equine Industry. I am versatile and eager in regard to working in-between an office and practical work. I am looking to enhance the transferrable skills I have developed through my degree and from my current role.
Shivers Eventing - Yard and competition groom included all daily duties (mucking out, hay, water, turn out/bring in). Riding role included hacking, schooling and jumping horses from 4-year-old to advanced British Eventing (BE). I also attended BE events across the country as a competition groom including Badminton, and Burghley Horse trials. This taught me a lot at a young age about organisation and responsibility which has stuck with me throughout.
Camp Lindenmere - On completion of A-levels I secured a place to work at a summer camp in the USA for three months. My job role as a camp counsellor was to ensure the well-being of campers within my bunk and appropriately pass on any issues that arose to senior staff. My role as a horse-riding instructor involved teaching children from aged 6 to 16 with ridden activities including schooling and jumping sessions, trail rides and pony games. Some afternoons were filled with unridden activities consisting of painting the pony, highlighting important anatomic structures of the horse, grooming and bathing.
Drakeley Stables Ltd. (Charlotte Draekeley Dressage) - All usual yard duties carried out, including daily turn out to a high standard, riding and lunging a variety from small FEI competition ponies to large competitive showjumpers and dressage horses. An essential part of this role was client care and professionalism; with clients around the yard every day to see their horses it was therefore important for us to deal with any requests regarding the horses’ routine and care with compassion and efficiency. Here I expanded my prior experience and knowledge greatly and gained further experience working with foals and stallions, as well as therapy and rehabilitation with this tailored livery package also offered. This role further developed my care and management skills, often taking sole charge of the yard. This job also allowed me to further improve my communication skills, and in the process, found a love for seeing clients at ease and compliment the running of the yard and level of care given to both them and their horse’s.
Hamilton Specialist Referrals - As a Client Care Assistant, we were the first point of contact for clients and referring vets both face to face and on the telephone. The role included answering all incoming telephone calls and emails and dealing with each one with compassion, in a timely manner. It was imperative that all records were kept clear and accurate at all times which often required liaising with owners and referring vets, particularly with regard to appropriately organising the consulting diary to accommodate clients’ and patients’ requirements, whilst being vigilant of any potential emergency cases that could call in imminently. This therefore developed my organisational skills and furthered my ability to multi-task effectively.
Within six months, I gained a promotion to Clinical Administrator to become part of the Operational Support Team. My current role includes writing the referral reports that each of specialists have dictated and then sending out to referring vets. Processing insurance claims and pre-authorisations daily; it is important in cases of emergencies that these are dealt with confidentially and with the utmost compassion and empathy due to such stressful circumstances for clients and their pets. Arranging monthly CPD events held at the hospital, both vet and nurse focussed, and then sending out CPD certificates to attendees. Processing orders for the clinical team daily and assisting in the running of monthly reports of infection rates, referring vets, and our commonly done procedures.
