Are you looking for a job?
But don’t know where to start?

It can be tricky to work out what you are looking for from a yard and your future employer. It’s important to think about what you want to achieve, where you want to be, ensuring you are happy within the job right from the beginning and getting the job satisfaction only achieved from the perfect role!

Here are some points to consider:

It is a good idea to make a list of the things that are important to you.

Do you want to be a competition groom?

This can be one of the most exciting and well-paid of the grooming roles, but it may not be for everyone. Attention to detail is key with stamina and the ability to multi task essential. Having a sense of humour is also very useful. Early starts and late finishes are “the norm” and you may be away for many weeks at a time. If you prefer regular hours and your own bed – then this job may not be for you!

Are you as a good a groom as you think?

Challenge yourself and improve your skills – if you can’t clip, learn to! Plan what and how you will develop. Ask your potential employer if they provide any on the job training such as help obtaining a HGV licence.

Be open to ideas and think outside the box as you might be happily surprised.

Where possible link your covering letter to specific elements relating to the role. Ensure that the signature on your email includes your contact details.
